It’s so AGGRAVATING! Among all our friends and colleagues, there is complete consensus about what our country needs to do to move forward. We need to invest in green energy and transportation. We need to divest of war. We need to make education available to all people. We have to re-empower the government to oversee corporations so that we can re-establish our goals to protect and nurture our planet. It’s NOT EVEN DEBATABLE, it’s OBVIOUS.
But meanwhile, out there in TV-land, there’s this alternate MYTHICAL COWBOY UNIVERSE. Where the only hope for humanity, apparently, rests in the hands of a few corporate mogul mavericks, who will save us from our own gross inefficiencies and unfortunate tendency to care about each other. And if they should absorb 90% of the nation’s wealth in the process, well, that’s just the American way, right? IT DOESN’T EVEN ENTER THE DIALOG that Americans could cooperatively establish any goals beyond individual monetary profit.
